"Dear mom, get a better nanny..."
Today, as I pulled stuff out of Mikey's book bag, I found this note from the teacher:
October 14, 2008
Laura,
Michael did not like the rice and beans mixed together. He ate the white rice from the other lunch provider. May I suggest that your nanny make him a container with white rice and a separate container with black beans.

I lol'ed. First of all, it's funny that the teacher would just assume that the nanny (a.k.a. me) prepares the boys' lunch. Why, just because there's a nanny it means the mother is suddenly uncapable of something as simple as lunch preparing? And also, had the nanny prepared Michael's lunch, she would have, in fact, put the rice and the beans in separate containers since she knows that Michael won't eat different foods if they're touching each other.
Secondly, I think it's a bit wrong for her to even address it as the nanny's fault. It's degrading in some way, both to me and my boss. Even if it were true, all her note is saying is that neither the boy's mom nor the nanny know Michael well enough to pack his lunch correctly. That is, of course, without taking in consideration that Laura may be doing an experiment and seeing if Michael will eat the rice and beans together if there are no other options. Or that she may be making him eat it since it's so silly that he won't eat them together. Or, even, mind you, that she asked the nanny to make the lunch like this.
In any case, her note should have kept me out of it. But hey, it'll make for a laugh for Laura as well. You know what they say about assuming...
